Milton Stern

In memoriam

Milt died in 2015. A principled man who sought the truth and constantly challenged others to be their best, Milt was highly respected by his clients, colleagues and peers alike. One of his greatest joys was building Bridgewater — his imprint is everywhere. He left behind a firm that is strong, intellectually deep and committed to the sole principle of “doing the right thing” for clients.

In 2016, the Milton Stern Scholars Fund was created in honor of Milt’s life, and to continue the legacy of his unwavering commitment to independent financial advisory work. After five years of being graciously hosted by the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning, in 2022, the Fund found a new home at The City College of New York (CCNY), the founding institution of the City University of New York (CUNY).

“Milt had keen business instincts, he believed in compromise and often sought win/win solutions when dealing with others,” said Leo. “He would be extremely proud to support the pursuits of today’s CUNY students.”

“Milt felt that education was the means to a better life for himself, his family, and his community,” said his wife, Rosalie J. Wolf. “He was committed to lifelong learning, and encouraged others to do the same. A proud alumnus of City College, he recognized that paying forward educational opportunities to others was the best way to say thank you.”

“Working with the team at Bridgewater and Milt’s family has already made a tremendous impact on how City College develops the forward-looking programs students need to be successful after graduation,” said Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Communications Dee Dee Mozeleski, who is also the executive director of The Foundation for City College, Inc.

Scholarships were awarded annually during the program’s initial five-year span at the CFP Board. City College plans to offer scholarships at a similar pace.
